Chapter 31 - Go Time

Now we needed something to transport into space to bend the path. A facility like this must have several vehicles that should be about the right size. I had to find this next in order to complete the calculations necessary to decide where to transport the object. I needed to know the objects mass, so I headed outside and down to ground level.

There were several vehicles, trucks and buses parked near the end of the floating road. The buses must have been used to bring the people here prior to transport off of Terra Durom. A bus was the largest thing I could find so I climbed inside and drove it to the large elevator at the end of the roadway. Their technology never ceased to amaze me, the fact that the elevator still had power after all these years was incredible.

Once at the end of the road I drove the bus onto the platform, and then walked back to the sphere control room.

The platform holding the bus had an extremely accurate scale build into it for calculating the mass of its cargo. This was extremely helpful.

It was getting late, but I was driven by the adrenaline of the situation. I ended up staying up all night feeding data into the computer and running various simulations to ensure that the bus would have enough mass to bend the path of the asteroid.

Everything seemed like it should work. I had to work the controls to align the roadway so that it was pointing in the right direction, parallel to the path of the asteroid. My goal was to shoot the bus into the transporter so that it would come out near the asteroid, fly beside it and the gravitational pull of the bus should be enough to pull it off its path.

Go time was going to be around 2:00pm tomorrow.

I had to get some sleep.
