The crew finally returned in their vehicle. They would have been better of stealing one of the local vehicles, but their protocol was to leave that alone and use our own gear.
I normally had a good relationship with the captain, but he was yelling at me like I just smacked his child. After he finally cooled off I had a chance to explain the situation. He seemed really apprehensive to believe me after the stunt I pulled. I pulled out my digital camera and showed him some of the technology I documented, and explained that I had no reason to lie to him. Why would I take him on a wild goose chase when I was already in enough trouble.
After a lot of work I was able to convince him to fly the craft down there in the chopper. We still had a few days to return if he didn't believe me.
I still had a lot of explaining to do, but it could wait till we were in the air.
